Maiyet for Barneys New York Eau de Parfum

I fell in love with the new fragrance from Maiyet when we recently travelled to NYC. It was on my shopping hit list. Exclusive to Barneys New York (and unavailable in Canada), it’s the fourth in a series of designer fragrance collaborations. Maiyet x Barneys New York continues Maiyet’s mission, as a fashion house, to establish global partnerships to produce high fashion that is artisanal, using local and sustainable materials. I stalked the entire collection at Barneys one afternoon, while a cheerful and complicit Little Miss Sasstainable cooed from her stroller at the friendly associates. Displayed with my favourite ankle boots for fall, and gorgeous hand-woven scarves, the perfume was prominent throughout womenswear. The Maiyet collection was hanging on the rails around (catch a glimpse of another of my fashion favourites, Stella McCartney, behind that). As Sarah Jessica Parker once told Vanity Fair, ‘If you’re a nice person and you work hard, you get to go shopping at Barneys. It’s the decadent reward.’

Maiyet Collection at Barneys New York

Kristy Caylor and Paul van Zyl, Maiyet founders, approached Master Perfumer Ralf Schwieger to collaborate on this unique perfume. He’s the nose behind fragrances for fashion houses from Hermès to Yves Saint Laurent. Schwieger created Maiyet’s signature scent with warm, sweet and nutty notes of Namibian myrrh, Indian sandalwood and jasmine, Indonesian patchouli, and Italian Bergamot. The result is a complex, strong, yet subtly sophisticated perfume, which is always my favourite.

Fairtrade designer fragrance

Of course, Maiyet x Barneys New York supports fair trade and economic empowerment, as the myrrh was harvested in partnership with Mane’s Kustha Project, which promotes the work of producers who create world-class essential oils. I’m officially selecting it as my autumn and winter fragrance, now that we’re finally starting to see Fall’s moody arrival. The whole Maiyet collection is, quite frankly, amazing, from a basketweave knit zip-front cape to those I-definitely-need-them cutout leather zip ankle boots. I so enjoyed seeing the collection, but alas, my budget didn’t stretch far enough to pick up the perfect block print shift dress this time, so instead, I’m sharing it here with all of you.
